Match report: Bayern Munich 2-0 Manchester City
Manchester City did what Roberto Mancini sides do best tonight in Germany. After conceding two poor goals in the first half, City folded in the face of Bayern Munich’s European experience and the intimidating atmosphere in the Alliance Arena. The second half whimper lacked even a quiet dignity as in-fighting took over: Edin Dzeko was visibly disgusted at coming off and Carlos Tevez refused to come on.
City have looked every inch Premier League contenders this season, but their early form in the Champions League form has been far more indicative of their relative inexperience as a side. Rushed into playing the ball quickly – put under real pressure – David Silva and Samir Nasri, so effective against Premier League opposition, have struggled to impose themselves. Roberto Mancini’s answer tonight was to bring on James Milner. The question…we’re still unsure of.
After a bad night, City are bottom of their group. There’s still time to improve and many of their problems can be linked to inexperience, but Mancini might want to give Carlos Tevez a kicking, just in case.
