Archivist: Garrincha v USSR, 1958 World Cup
Brazil v USSR, Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, 1958 World Cup: Brazil winger Garrincha is a study in concentration as he prepares to shimmy past a USSR defender. At least the Russian is watching the ball. Or Garrincha’s legs… okay, he’s fucked.
Brazil won the group match 2-0 (both goals were scored by Vava) and went on to win the whole show, beating hosts Sweden 5-2 in the final.
Notes
Today marks the 78th anniversary of Garrincha’s birth. The man passed at 49.
Dude.
