Earlier in the week, I compared the nastiness of Thatcher to that of Cameron, and though they’re of similar ilk in a way, at least Thatcher was a woman of substance, who stood for something. Cameron, on the other hand, offers nothing but vacuous sneering, and miserable quality vacuous sneering at that. “Damp squib” and “irresponsible, left-wing and weak” was the best he could do yesterday, when oddly, the most telling comment was delivered by George Osborne – noting that industrial action, taken by two million and supported by many more, “would not achieve or change anything”. That’s the Chancellor of the Exchequer, bragging, in Parliament, about not giving, a fuck.

Strikes 2

The strikes were both a calculated half-billion strike to the heart of the economy, and also a damp squib. It was neither. It was a strike unlikely to be repeated to display the sheer displeasure and unhappiness with the government’s ideology, not their practical resolution of Britain insolvency – mainly because the efforts so far simply aren’t practical. Things are getting worse, and so things get worse for the poorest, not the richest. Where’s the justification? Up Cameron’s hole, that’s where. The only lesson to learn here is that when Labour is in power, unions need to stockpile a solidarity fund to effect really sustained strikes when the Tories come back in. Stockpiling money when times are good? Why, even the Tories have been banging that drum since the economic tits-up, even they’d have to agree with that.

Management 101 

Neither Fabio nor Rafael were able to finish the match against Crystal Palace last night. Having used all substitutes after around an hour, Alex Ferguson could not change the game or refresh his team as extra time began. Both the sexx twins could be excellent players, but right now there is genuinely more chance of Michael Owen finishing a game than there is the two twins – and he’s injured. Fergie lost his temper and patience with Owen Hargreaves, refusing him to indulge his head any longer after the game at Wolves. It doesn’t seem likely that it’ll happen to Rafael or Fabio any time soon, possibly because there’s no money to replace them, but it’s not impossible their careers at United might not be as long as initially expected.
