On This Day: Spurs 1-6 Chelsea, 1997

Who’s the biggest club in London? Well, probably still Arsenal, but Tottenham and Chelsea played in this so there you go.

A game notable for Chelsea struggling to do justice to just quite how bad late nineties Tottenham were, despite the white Chris Sutton – Tore Andre Flo – scoring a hat-trick.

At half time Spurs legend Ramon Vega’s goal brought Tottenham to 1-1 with Chelsea, Flo having scored five minutes before. That meant Chelsea went on to score a ludicrous five goals in one half. As the onslaught continued, the introduction of both Rory Allen and Justin Edinburgh was surprisingly not enough to salvage a point.

In fact, almost every player for Spurs that day was abominable. Look at this roll-call of piss.
