Imagine if Fernando Torres had been this good for Chelsea (video of all 81 Liverpool goals)

Fernando Torres has been displaced by Didier Drogba’s ghost in Chelsea’s starting lineup of late. For £50million Chelsea have had themselves a blonde-haired bench-warmer.

It could have been different. Injuries caught up with Torres before he’d even left Liverpool, but even since then, early on this season, he had looked good, only for a red card to see him suspended for three games. Three Premier League games without him and Andre Villas Boas seemed to decide there was no need for a proper recall. There have been substitutions and starts since then, but the manager’s faith has been missing – a run in the team has been missing.

It’s a shame because, look at Chelsea’s team: Juan Mata, Daniel Sturridge, Raul Mereiles and Ramires; it’s full of pace and guile. It probably suits Torres’ game more than Drogba’s ghosts’ – despite his returned form. Imagine Torres playing well with these players. Imagine him playing like this:

What a player he was for two and a bit seasons for Liverpool. The best striker in the world? He had a significant claim – Messi, of course is a false-nine (a fucking lie of nine!), so doesn’t count. Dear Mr Villas Boas, try and get him back to this.
