Talking points from tonight – 20,000th goal, Berbatov, Suarez

Tonight some football was played and no incidents of racism were reported. A relative success for all concerned. I watched Manchester United beat Fulham 5-0 at Craven Cottage and it wasn’t bad. But enough filler, these are the talking points as they come to me.

The 20,000th Premier League goal

Was scored by Mark Albrighton. Great. This is a number which means nothing to anyone but SKY and the people they can make think it matters. The £20,000 donated to charity because of it is, we should presume, a cruel joke about the wealth of the Premier League against the backdrop of massive economic decline. At least, we should say, the goal was a shit one – so they won’t keep showing it.

Dimi Berbatov got a game for Manchester United

Dimi Berbatov came on for Manchester United tonight. After they’d gone three-nil up. It was nice to see him, though he didn’t get many touches. Then he scored a frigging backheel. A frigging backheel. What kind of player scores that goal? Of course, Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t smile, because he stopped enjoying football as a game years ago.

Luis Suarez

Liverpool players wore shirts in support of Suarez before their game against Wigan. Supporting racists, the forgotten minority, Liverpool’s efforts to substantiate their claims that everyone is against them have gone as far as turning everyone against them. Clever.
