*Basic decency continued it’s shocking run of form as BANTER carried on with it’s inexorable winning streak, with Dalglish stating the booing of a man for being racially abused were exactly that – ‘friendly banter’ in his post-match interview. A lovely and sensible way to top off a last-minute victory in the cup over your hated rivals.  If it is a generational thing, perhaps he should stop doling out ammunition to the #BANTZ crowd.

* Scholes goes off, United fall apart. An old story back again in the ginger one’s return from the wilderness. United simply have no other player in their team who not only possesses his sense of composure, but is equally capable of spreading it to his teammates.

* The chief United culprits must surely be Danny Welbeck for his selfishness and Patrice Evra for his poor positioning. De Gea looked ill at ease all game, and whilst that will have done nothing to suggest that he is a superior keeper at the moment to Lindegaard, his mistakes ended up having no bearing on the result.

* Dimitar Berbatov’s exclusion until being hurled on as One More Striker when it was too late is mystifying. Welbeck is more than a poacher, but for the duration of today’s game, his only thought was to run towards the goal – imagining that he could form a successful partnership with Hernandez at the moment appears to be folly.

* Whilst it was exciting fare, the quality of the three goals were Championship-level. Now, only an idiot would prefer to see a dull game of technical quality, but it does suggest just at what level these teams are playing at the moment. United are undoubtedly punching well above their weight in the league, through their ever-diminishing mental fortitude.
