Police confiscate Manchester United fanzines for ‘inciting racial hatred’
Greater Manchester Police have confiscated copies of Redissue fanzine from sellers around Old Trafford ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League match against Liverpool, due to ‘inciting racial hatred’, according to reports from fans attending the game.
The offending article appears to be the back page of the magazine, featuring a cut-out Ku-Klux-Klan-style hood featuring the words ‘Suarez is Innocent.’ Fans on Twitter also reported having copies of the fanzine confiscated by staff at Old Trafford.
It is not known whether the order to confiscate all copies of the magazine came as a result of a complaint from one of the clubs involved or directly from the police. The move is certain to diffuse the tense situation and will in no way stoke the atmosphere up even more before the game and make any unsavoury incidents more likely to occur.
