The Monday Nonsense
Constant elevation causes expansion / I write my rhyme while I cool in my mansion / Then put it on tape and in the city I test it / Then on the radio the R’s requested / You listen to it, the concept might break you / ‘Cause almost anyone can relate to… / Whoever’s out of hand, I’m give him handles /Light ‘em up, blow ‘em out like candles / Or should I just let him melt? / Then give him a hand so they can see how it felt / I’m not bold just cuz I rock gold / Rakim is on the mic and you know I got soul
Say what you want about the government, they’ve certainly got ambition. Introducing academies as the go-to prototype for schools is fiddling on the edges, no matter how unpleasant Michael Gove tries to be about it. Even the escalation of university fees is a logical progression of the beliefs of New Labour as much as anything else. Privatising the police and leaking the plans as the same time it was revealed that the police or MI5 had been amassing details of troublesome or left-wing workers in the building industry, and passing it on to potential employers, is so brazen that the public could start to indulge in some real civil disobedience without an ounce of blame. While the riots obviously had their downsides, and innocent people were hurt, it would be such a shame were something similar to happen at the Olympics. After all, we’ll know where Sebastian Coe, George Osborne, David Cameron and the rest of the front bench will be at opening ceremony. It would be remiss of us not to use that information.

Chelsea looking for a new manager is like you trying to find a new girlfriend. It doesn’t matter who she is, you’re still you: it will end in disaster.

This is going to sound carping following a week in which he’s supplied a crucial injury-time assist for Manchester United, scored for England and then scored two more crucial goals for Manchester United, but Ashley Young is possibly the perfect encapsulation of the ftbllr generation. Decent but not outstanding ability announced in earrings, watches and gold-teethed entourage, no sooner has he made most significant impact of his life, than he’s racing off and away from his teammates to pose casual indifference to his purported magnificence in front of the crowd.

So David De Gea can keep goal? Why, it’s almost as if Manchester United spent two years watching a very young man with incredible reflexes excel in a UEFA Cup-winning side.
