John Terry’s Humility
John Terry is a special kind of man. Here are some of his most humble moments.
On Andre Villas Boas’ departure:
“This can be a learning experience for him.”
On whether or not he manages Chelsea now:
“In response to comments suggesting I think I’m the manager, I’d like to say Robbie has stepped up and been immense.”
On joining the armed forces:
‘It’s great they want to do that and they are brilliant at their job. I would love to [serve], of course. Put your life on the line for the country – I would love to, but I don’t think many of us could.’
On Guus Hiddink:
‘He’s obviously a very good guy. I know he’s been involved with the club anyway, but I kept in contact on a personal level. That speaks volumes for him.’
On Carlo Ancelotti:
‘He’s got my full support. I love Carlo.’
On Fabio Capello:
”Fabio backed me. That comes from a relationship that was built up between myself and him.’
On self-awareness:
‘I always knew what I wanted to do with my life and career, but I was helped along the way by a few people. I didn’t need telling, but when people like Franco (Zola), Wisey (Dennis Wise) and Marcel (Desailly) take the time out to say, ‘You’ve got the world at your feet if you do things right’, then you think there must be something to it.’
